One of the biggest challenges for would-be gamers is finding an RPG group. Depending on where you live, this can be a challenging task or it can be just as simple as showing up at your Friendly Local Gaming Store. Players in larger cities or college towns usually have more options, but never fear rural gamers — there’s still hope for you!

Nate from wasd20.net put together this short video which will give you some basic ideas on how you can find a gaming group.

Do What Works For You

Even though tabletop roleplaying games are at their core social games, many gamers are not comfortable in large social situations. Yeah, there’s the stereotype of the social awkward/inept basement dwelling gamer, but I don’t believe that really tells the story.

Personally, I’ve been the president of a large soccer club, run board meetings, and spoken in front of thousands of people at marketing conventions around the world, but I found the idea of searching out gamers at my local gaming store to be a daunting task…go figure.

So I started by recruiting some friends and family, then reached out online to find a group. It took a couple of shots online to find the right group of gamers, but now I have a fantastic monthly online game in addition to playing with friends, and my two oldest boys . Bottom line, do what makes you the most comfortable to find an RPG group …just do it!
