With Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens now only one month away, I expect you’ll see a bunch of gamers come down with the itch to play some Star Wars. The West End Games D6 version of Star Wars still gets a lot of play, but if you want the latest and greatest in Star Wars gaming then Fantasy Flight Games is your ticket.
And if you are going to play one of the FFG Star Wars RPGs (Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion or Force & Destiny), then the Order 66 podcast is a must listen!
The Order 66 podcast began back in January 2008, covering the WotC Star Wars Saga Edition game. At the 2009 ENnie Awards, the podcast was the silver winner for the Best Podcast category.
GM Chris & GM Dave recorded an epic 167 episodes for Saga Edition before switching over to cover Edge of the Empire and the rest of the FFG Star Wars RPG games. As of today, the Edge version of the podcast has 65+ episodes recorded, and they’ve even added a 3rd host in GM Phil.
The podcast has evolved over the years, becoming more streamlined to dive into the meat of the show earlier in the cast. The relationships the crew has built over the years with the developers, game designers, and celebrities of the gaming world sets the bar high for other podcasts covering Star Wars.
It’s not unusual to have the lead producer for particular splat book come on the show to discuss their thoughts behind the design. Being able to get inside the heads of the games’ creators has immeasurable value. In addition, guests like Sam Witwer (voice actor for Vader’s Secret Apprentice in the Force Unleashed video game, as Darth Maul & Emperor Palpatine in the Clone Wars series) provide lots of laughs as well as rock solid gaming advice.
